Who Is: Ray Walsh

Kinematifest 9 presents Ray Walsh, who will be speaking from 12:00pm to 1:00pm on Saturday, April 16th in Sverdrup 123!


Ray is a comic creator from St. Louis, MO, and has been creating their webcomic Dollhouse while working at their local comic shop. They love writing romance and supernatural stories, and have made a handful of mini-comics as well. They launched a successful Kickstarter to print the first volume of Dollhouse in August 2014, became an affiliate with Hiveworks in November 2015, and have been a guest speaker at local cons over the past few years.

Who Is: Matt Rathiel

Matt is a game developer, web developer and artist living in St. Louis, MO. He has developed games for Facebook, iPhone/iPad, Nintendo Wii/DS, as well as big name companies like Disney, Konami, and Activision – just to name a few. Graduating in 2004 from Missouri State University with a Bachelor of Science in Electronic Arts, he moved onto working for Missouri Fine Arts Academy before joining Black Lantern Studios. Under Black Lantern Studios he helped create Graphite Labs where they are currently creating their latest game, Hive Jump.

Webster University presents Kinematifest 9 on April 15­16

We are pleased to announce the 9th annual Kinematifest festival on April 15th and 16th,

2016. Kinematifest is Webster University’s international Animation and Interactive Media

festival. We strive to celebrate animation and digital media as well as foster connections

in the industry with professional speakers and workshops. Student works from all over the

world are submitted to be screened Saturday night at the festival.

We are especially excited to present our keynote speaker, Jerry Beck, American

animation historian, author, blogger and video producer. Co­founder of Cartoon Brew,

author of over 15 books on animation history, and former studio executive with

Nickelodeon Movies and Disney, Jerry Beck will be speaking on Saturday with a later

presentation on Looney Toons.

We are also excited to present Matt Rathiel, Studio Director of Graphite Lab. Matt Rathiel

is the creator of Hive Jump, a successfully kickstarted sci­fi platformer which is currently

in production. Graphite Labs has worked on games for clients such as Cartoon Network,

Disney Interactive Studios, Konami, Nickelodeon and Activision.

Kinematifest is happy to present Ray Walsh as well. Ray is a comics creator who

graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a BA in Art & Design in

2011. They are the creator of Hiveworks­published comic Dollhouse, a drama revolving

around a band and the terrible decisions they make. Ray Walsh is also the creator of the

comic Anchored.

We are proudly being sponsored by Star Clipper. Star Clipper is St. Louis’ premier comic

book shop and offers manga, cards and gaming supplies, action figures, and other pop

culture items.

Kinematifest 9 will have a screening of The Iron Giant at 9:30pm on Friday, April 16th. We

are also happy to present a Comic Jam event from 6:00­7:00pm on Friday, April 15th, a

collaborative comic creation workshop where attendees can create one large comic

Jerry Beck is coming to Kinematifest 9

Animation historian Jerry Beck is coming to Kinematifest 9 on April 15th & 16th. On Saturday the 16th, at 2 P.M., Beck will be discussing the “Nuts & Bolts” of the animation industry. At 6 P.M., he will present a History of the Looney Toons in Winifred Moore Auditorium.
